about

Solo piano improvisations based on my ongoing study of harmonies from the last century, weaving together techniques and sounds I've learned from the likes of Debussy, Scriabin, Messiaen and Schoenberg.

The track titles are from a 16th century book by Paracelsus. The broadly alchemical literature from this time is a mixture of theoretical speculation, empirical science, religion and the occult. The titles are words that appear in sigils Paracelsus claims are capable of curing a variety of diseases. Like the classical music of the early twentieth century, some of this feels familiar and some is deeply alien -- it comes from another time that we can glimpse but don't belong in.
